Speaking Truth To Power of the Day: Amy Weber, a happily married lesbian who shares two biological daughters with her wife Tina, speaks to Mayor Janice Daniels at a recent Troy City Council meeting.

Mayor Daniels came under fire earlier this month after anti-gay comments she made on Facebook with respect to New York’s same-sex marriage law were uncovered by a local blog.

    [buzzfeed.]

    I love this so much.

  • In case you needed more reasons that Rick Perry shouldn’t be president.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian, but you don’t need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.
As President, I’ll end Obama’s war on religion. And I’ll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage.
Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again.
I’m Rick Perry and I approve this message.

  • Shorter University tells employees they must agree to a "Personal Lifestyle Statement"

On Oct. 26 the Baptist university in Rome, Ga. announced that all 200 employees must read and agree to a Personal Lifestyle Statement. Among other things, it commits them to being active members of their church and avoiding the consumption of alcohol in public. “The ‘why’ is really simple: What you stand for matters,” the school said in a statement. “Proverbs 3:5-6 tell us to ‘Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding’… If we acknowledge Him, He will make this university’s path straight.”

Straight being the key word. Employees must also pledge to “reject as acceptable all sexual activity not in agreement with the Bible, including, but not limited to, premarital sex, adultery and homosexuality.”

Emphasis mine. There’s also a petition against it.

  • Transgender Widow's Marriage Voided

You may have heard the story of Nikki Araguz. She is a transgender woman who was (common law) married to a firefighter who passed away in July. According to Nikki, her husband Thomas was aware of her past, but apparently his family was not, and a filed a lawsuit to ensure Nikki did not receive any of his assets.

A Wharton county judge ruled the marriage void, ensuring Nikki does not receive any of her husbands death benefits.
